Heartland Landscapes was built from a lifelong connection to the outdoors and a genuine love for creating spaces that feel calm, natural, and built to last.
Our story
Growing up, the family home always had a beautiful garden. My parents were passionate gardeners and over the years they slowly shaped and developed the property themselves. Looking back now, I can see that appreciation for outdoor spaces started there. Not in a flashy way. Just the simple feeling of being outside in a space that felt grounded, peaceful, and well cared for.
Before starting Heartland Landscapes, I spent years working across New Zealand and Australia learning the trade from the ground up. I started with Schmidt Construction and Bonham Builders in Auckland before moving to Sydney.
I worked with James Collins at NBG Landscapes in Sydney before gaining further experience with Loci Landscapes in Hobart and Yallingup Landscapes in Western Australia. Those years exposed me to different styles, climates, materials, construction methods, and expectations around quality.
Every project taught something new.
I learned quickly that great landscaping is never just about installing products or finishing a job fast. The best projects are carefully considered, beautifully built, and tied deeply to the surrounding environment.
What Heartland stands for
Today, Heartland Landscapes focuses on creating thoughtful outdoor spaces for clients who genuinely value quality craftsmanship, natural materials, and good design. I love working alongside passionate architects, builders, designers, and clients who care deeply about the finished product and enjoy the process along the way.
One project that really captures that philosophy was a collaboration alongside Shaun Lockyer Architects, Greencare Landscape Architects, and Ledbury Construction. The home and landscape blended together so naturally it almost felt like the property had always existed that way.
Mature trees, natural stone, quiet outdoor spaces, subtle details everywhere. That project reinforced exactly the kind of work I want Heartland Landscapes to be known for.
Shaped by the outdoors
When I'm not on site, you'll find me with my wife Hannah and our daughter Lily somewhere outdoors. Most weekends start at Redhead Surf Club with a coffee, a swim, or a surf before the day gets going. That connection to nature, family, craftsmanship, and simple outdoor living shapes every project we take on.
